Pelham Art Center Director, Lisa Robb, Announces Plans to Leave Position
During the Pelham Art Center’s last Board meeting of the year, Lisa Robb, Director of the Center since 1999, announced her plans to leave her position at the close of 2010. She explained that after eleven years at the Center she was excited about new challenges and was deeply gratified that her departure came after a year in which the Center completed many projects: renovation of its galleries, reception area and offices; opening a much needed digital art lab; and the launch of ambitious plans to celebrate the Center’s 40th birthday in 2010. Pelham Art Center is an art education charity and serves 15,000 people of all ages with classes, gallery, public and outreach programs.
Andrea Bayer, Chair of the Art Center’s Board, noted that the Board received the news of Lisa’s departure with regret, but wished her great success with her next career move. “Lisa has been an outstanding Director for the Center over more than a decade. She has guided the organization through the most serious recession since its founding without sacrificing the long-needed renovation of the galleries and offices; the depth and breadth of its programming and classes; and the support it provides underserved community members. Over the decade she helped the Art Center become an integral member of the area’s many communities and has made the Pelham Art Center an example to be followed throughout NY State. Her emphasis has been on building ties and partnerships throughout Westchester and on offering the highest quality possible in the Center’s core art activities – public programs, studio classes, gallery exhibitions and outreach services. The Art Centers’ Boards and Gallery Committee join me in thanking her for her extraordinary service to the Art Center, those it serves and the community arts field.”
Robb commented, “What a tremendous highlight this job is in my career. I am very gratified with work I completed here and am happy the field is being offered a great position to lead this vital and stable art center. My deepest pride about the work here is the simple matter it seems to be: we offer the public many different art programs and the public seeks, enjoys and finds satisfaction here at this community art center on the main street of a 350 year old town. Everyday I see that the arts and creative expression are a solid foundation upon which to make and keep communities strong and thriving. As for my next job – my shoulders are wide and the search starts July 1! I plan to join another compelling, successful organization and then take a longer than usual vacation.”
Prior to joining Pelham Art Center, Robb was Director of Operations, Bronx Museum of the Arts and the Friends of Photography; Regional Manager Assistant and Project Administrator of EIP, environmental consulting; and Consumer Affairs Editor, Modern Photography Magazine.
She received her BFA from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and completed the Getty Trust’s, Museum Management Institute.
