Comedies to Raise the Roof
By at The Manor Club

Staging a unique evening of entertainment, The Manor Club announces its new show and screening of an independent film for Saturday, September 25. Ticket sales will help pay for a major replacement of the roof on the historic building.

“Save the date, pencil us in on your calendars,” urges Ann Rende, co-chair of the Event Planning Committee. “This will be the biggest fun night in Pelham this year.”

The fundraiser will feature excerpts from plays written and directed by Rosemary Foley during the better part of the last two decades. Dozens of actresses will perform in short excerpts from a half dozen of the best of those comedies, such as Women at War, Follies ‘97, No Time for Christmas, Here Comes the Bride, Spanish Fever, and others.

A few examples: Spanish Fever is the story of a married woman from Pelham who falls in love online with Marco Manuel Montello in Madrid and is determined to fly to Spain to find her dot.com secret lover.

In Here Comes the Bride a mother gives advice to her daughter who is worried about losing her husband. These and the other play excerpts are now in rehearsal under writer/director Rosemary Foley.

“Our theater is one of the few professional theaters in the county,” claimed the playwright,” and previous fundraisers have given us a new stage, giant curtain, a high-tech lighting system, and other renovations. Now the club building itself desperately needs a new roof and that is why we are doing this ‘Stars’ event.”

President Joan Cornell added that The Manor Club is not just for members. Other organizations use it, too. The Junior League, the SOOP Theater, Sheran Daniele of Ballet Arts, piano teachers, and others have used the club facilities.

“Imagine a mother seeing her child taking lessons on a professional stage,” she said.

Pelhamites will see Foley’s short film, “Oh, Promise Me,” which features New Rochelle’s Frances Sternhagen, four other actors with Broadway credits, the renowned harpist Nancy Allen, and forty Pelham “extras.” The movie was part of the Big Apple Film Festival at the Tribeca Theater, as well as the Tacoma Film Festival last year. This will be the first time people in Pelham will see the film.[www.ohpromiseme.net].

Rosemary Foley [www.rosemaryfoley.com] is an award-winning playwright with over one hundred original works, some of which have won her international prizes. The Manor Club is honoring her by celebrating her plays, as well as her work over the years and has made her a lifetime member.

“Comedies to Raise the Roof By” starts at 7pm and is followed by refreshments and an opportunity to mingle with the local “stars” at The Manor Club, 1023 Esplanade.

Ticket reservations can be made by calling 914-738-1528 or by e-mail at themanorclub@verizon.net . The event is open to the public.
