The Picture House Receives
Two Outstanding Grants

The Picture House announced that it has recently been awarded two outstanding grants supporting a year-long season of film programming. These competitive grants were presented to The Picture House by the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) and ArtsWestchester.

“We are extremely grateful to have been a beneficiary of these two important grants. They will afford The Picture House the opportunity to continue to provide the best in film and exciting education programming as we reopen our newly renovated 1921 theater in early 2011. Both of these awards not only impact the art of film and filmmaking, but also provide a positive cultural influence for the surrounding communities,” said Jennifer Christman, Picture House Executive Director.

The Picture House received this initial funding through NYSCA’s Electronic Media and Film program. NYSCA makes over 2500 grants each year to arts organizations in every arts discipline throughout the state. NYSCA’s goal is to bring high-quality artistic programs to citizens of the state through supporting the activities of nonprofit arts and cultural organizations. The New York State Council on the Arts is celebrating 50 years of building strong, creative communities in New York State’s 62 counties.

The ArtsWestchester award was another first-time grant for The Picture House. In 2009, ArtsWestchester awarded approximately $1.5 million in grants to artists and arts organizations who together serve more than 1,000,000 people. ArtsWestchester also serves as an arts advocate, an arts educator and an arts marketer … an organization that serves the community on many levels.
