Brick Park to be Dedicated in Joe Trotta’s Name

To the Editor:

At a Village of Pelham Board of Trustees meeting, held on February 23, 2010, a resolution was approved to dedicate Brick Part in Joe Trotta’s Honor.

I feel that the residents of Pelham and surrounding communities understand why Joseph A. Trotta was bestowed this honor.

All those who knew Joe, whether it be Pelham, Mt. Vernon, New Rochelle, White Plains, etc. knew Joe as a very dedicated, hard working individual who always strived for the best in whatever the endeavor was.

Over the years that Joe served, in an official capacity, he accomplished many things for The Pelham’s. For those of you who have been around for a long period of time can look back and recall the many accomplishments that Joe achieved. For those of you that are new to The Pelham’s and did not know Joe and have a desire to know about him, ask any of the older residents and they will gladly tell you all about Joe, with a smile on their faces.

A bio of Joe’s involvement with our Community: born August 10, 1918 in New Rochelle; moved to Pelham in 1939; 1949 He joined the Hook & Ladder Company #1; 1958 – 1963: Elected to five terms as Fire Commissioner; 1963 -- 1970: Elected to three terms as Mayor of North Pelham; 1970 – 1976: Elected to three terms as Town Supervisor; 1977 – 1983: Elected to three terms as Mayor of the Village of Pelham; 1987 – 2002: Served as Senior Advocate for the Town of Pelham and February 23, 2006: Joe passed on at the age of 87.

What could be more fitting than to dedicate an area in the center of our Village in honor of JOSEPH A. TROTTA.

I had the privilege of knowing Joe from when I moved to Pelham in 1962.

Respectfully submitted:
